Blog Difference between Taj Mahal and Perla Bianco quartzite

With natural stone continuing to grow in popularity and more varieties becoming available all the time it’s very easy for a consumer to become confused about what exactly they’re purchasing. The likelihood of this uncertainty grows when comparing two materials that share the same exquisite colors and patterns such as Taj Mahal and Perla Bianco. These two iconic Brazilian quartzites have long been appreciated in architecture and design circles but the belief still persists that they’re the same stone. As proud producers of both of these varieties we created this short video to highlight the differences between the two so you can better educate yourself and your customers.

Taj Mahal, perhaps the most identifiable quartzite in production today, comes from a specific mountain range in the Uruoca district of the state of Ceara in Brazil. Within this huge mountain range there are several areas of active quarrying where Taj Mahal can be found. Confusingly, some other companies that also buy blocks from this region call this same material by an alternate name, Perla Venata, but the vast majority of blocks produced here are named Taj Mahal and these are exported around the world to satisfy demand for this famous color.

Perla Bianco, also referred to as Naica, is quarried in the same state but at another completely different mountain range about 40 miles away. Perla Bianca has similar coloration and pattern to Taj Mahal but can always be identified by the “cracked” or fractured structure evidenced in this video. This is the sure-fire way to tell these colors apart and is one of the best tools we can share with you to be confident in what you’re purchasing. Despite this appearance Perla Bianca slabs are just as tough and durable as any other Brazilian quartzite and we sell both of these varieties with confidence for use in any application.
